In response to the unofficial unveiling of the Cherry Mobile Omega HD 2.0, many users has expressed their disappointment as they just purchased the Omega HD and in just a few days it was ‘outdated’ already. Meanwhile, other lurkers expressed delight as they almost bought one too and they accidentally saved themselves.
Here’s the device info from AnTuTu.

The launch of the Cherry Mobile Omega HD 2.0 is pretty much expected as the Skyfire 2.0 is not that much of an enemy on the MyPhone A919i Duo which is considered as the best local android phone at the moment. With the Cherry Mobile Omega HD 2.0, it looks like the competition is now even up and we’re now about to see a true rivalry of affordable two top-notch smartphones.

Considering that the handset comes with rather stellar technical specifications for a midrange release, which include a Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 MT6589 chipset, 1 GB of RAM, 5-inch HD IPS display, 8 MegaPixel main camera with LED flash, 720p HD video recorder, 2 MegaPixel front-facing camera, and a large 2,000 mAh battery pack, it's truly a wonder how MyPhone managed to price MyPhone A919i at only Php 9,590 and even offer it for more than Php 2,000 less during its launch a few days ago.

With the aggressive pricing strategy that MyPhone is currently employing in its line of Android devices, I guess it's safe to say that the company is definitely in it to win it. A couple of months back, both Cherry Mobile and Starmobile - MyPhone's biggest rivals in the local handset scene - released their flagship handsets in the form of the Dual Core Cherry Mobile Omega HD and Starmobile Diamond. During that point, I was wondering why we weren't seeing a competing smartphone from MyPhone, which can go head to head with those two. Apparently, the company was already planning to surprise consumers with a similarly priced Dual SIM Quad Core phablet.

I have a friend who purchased the discounted MyPhone A919i Duo at SM MegaMall during its official release date, April 30, 2013. I asked him, "What can you say about the phone?" He told me, "The screen is good. The phone feels great in the hand. The camera isn't as good as the 8 MegaPixel shooter on my Samsung Galaxy S2; I'm not getting the same image clarity especially in low light conditions. But the good thing about it is that I'm experiencing minimal lags. I guess that's because the chipset performs well. Overall, the handset is not perfect but it has enough good points to make me feel that I made the right decision in purchasing it."

MyPhone A919i Duo's Antutu and Quadrant Standard Benchmark Test Results courtesy of MyPhone. Not bad right? I'm actually surprised at how well the severely underrated MediaTek MT6589 chipset performs.

Unboxing: Typical Cherry Mobile Packaging

Hello there sezzy.
Hello there sezzy.
The Cherry Mobile Blaze 2.0 comes in your usual Cherry Mobile colorful box. It has the product photo and name at the front with the huge quad-core branding on top. At the back we find the specifications and all other small details. Opening it was also standard fare. We removed the tape and pulled out the inner compartment. We were immediately greeted by the huge Cherry Mobile Blaze 2.0 wrapped in plastic.
5.7-inches of awesomeness
5.7-inches of awesomeness
We’ll get to the phone in detail later. Other than the phablet we also found the usual peripherals: charger, USB to microUSB cable, earphones (branded Cherry Mobile), warranty card, and the manual. What we found amusing was the design of their wall charger. It looked like the old Apple wall charger from the earlier iPhones and iPads.
Lumelevel sa Apple
Lumelevel sa Apple
There were no other freebies but that’s okay since Cherry Mobile is really cutting costs so that they can sell this at the lower possible price.

Hardware Check: A Slim and Light Phablet

The Cherry Mobile Blaze 2.0 rocks a 5.7-inch display making it bigger than the Galaxy Note 2. However it somehow gives an illusion that it’s actually smaller than it is because of the form factor. It measures just 9.9mm thick, making it one of the more slimmer phablets in the market today. It’s heavier than the Omega HD 2.0 but not by much as well.
Just 9.9mm thick
Just 9.9mm thick
The good news is Cherry Mobile finally picked a phone without a pure glossy plastic chassis. The Cherry Mobile Blaze 2.0 has a smooth black matte finish at the back. It’s cool to the touch and a joy to hold. The Blaze 2.0 branding is at the center, the 12MP BSI camera with LED flash at the top, and the speaker grill and Cherry Mobile branding at the bottom.
Another improvement is the color of the band. Usually Cherry Mobile goes for the silver or chrome color. With the Blaze 2.0 they went for a Dark Blue hue making it more sleek, elegant, and professional. Resting on the band are the usual ports and buttons: micro USB port at the bottom, volume rocker and power lock at the right, and the headphone jack on top.
What the back looks like
What the back looks like
At the front we have the 5.7 glass display. The receiver grill is at the top together with the 3MP camera. At the bottom we have a physical home button… which we found really weird since the display already has an on-screen button for home (feature of Android Jelly Bean 4.2). This is kinda redundant actually but hey like what a viewer said during the podcast… two is better than one, lol.
Weird.
Weird.
Over-all the Blaze 2.0 is still hefty and quite big. The thing with phablets is that they tend to polarize customers. Some will love ‘em while some will hate ‘em. To those who love phablets though we can say that this one is designed well and that the internals show a lot of potential.
Speaking of internals…

Software Check: Android Jelly Bean 4.2.1 FTW

The Cherry Mobile Blaze 2.0 packs Android 4.2.1 out of the box. Our initial few hours with it showed promise as we barely encountered any lags or delays thanks to the quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, and Project Butter of Android Jelly Bean. The internals were more than enough to handle basic core functions.
We did a quick Antutu benchmark test and it scored over 12,900, which is good for MediaTek powered quad-core devices.
Not bad.
Not bad.
In the next few days we’ll load this phone up with graphics intensive games and other kinds of applications.

We’ll be battering this phone with our usual tests for the full review. This includes the battery rundown and the photo quality of the camera. Expect the full review sometime next week as we really want to take our time in burning in this device so that we really get the real world user experience out of it. :)

Cherry Mobile Omega HD

 By:Theodore Estadilla

Cherry Mobile Omega HD Hands-on Preview, Specs, Price – 5-inch HD IPS Dragon Trail Glass Display, Dual-core CPU, 1GB RAM, and Jelly Bean
On 19, Mar 2013
Cherry Mobile just launched another powerful yet affordable device that goes by the name Cherry Mobile Omega HD. Sounds familiar, right? If you’ve been following them closely, you’ll know that it’s actually the follow-up to the CM Omega  - which turned out to be a big disappointment to many, mainly because a lot of fans had started overhyping it too much.
Finally, after a couple of months, Cherry Mobile has released a successor to the 5.2-inch phablet. This time, they made sure they gave their fans what they wanted – 1GB RAM.  While they already have a smartphone in their line up with 1GB of RAM in the Titan TV, it has its flaws, such as the WVGA resolution (480×800) on a gigantic 6 inch display. Also, not everybody wants a phablet that huge as it’s uncomfortable to take with you every day as a primary phone, especially on commutes.

Cherry-Mobile-Omega-HD-Photos-Specs-Previews-Price

Let’s start with a short introduction and start talking about its main features, improvements over its predecessor, and our thoughts.
We were really excited when we first heard that the Cherry Mobile Omega would soon have a follow-up. In fact, event before the 1st generation Omega was unveiled, rumors of the Omega HD had already been building up. An alleged jelly case and screen protector were also leaked by Cherry Angel (retailer) before it launched, which hyped it even further among Cherry Mobile user groups on Facebook.
Display: 5-inch HD IPS Display, Dragon Trail Glass
The most notable feature of the Cherry Mobile Omega HD is its high definition 1280×720 pixel resolution IPS Dragon Trail Glass display. Unlike earlier affordable local smartphones that typically sported screens with a WVGA resolution, the Cherry Mobile Omega HD, as the name implies, gives us a first-ever taste of a locally branded smartphone with an HD display. Also, it’s a Dragon Trail Glass display, meaning it can handle more than your typical bumps and scratches because it’s designed to be ultra-tough (scratch resistant). At the event, they even challenged us to do anything we could to scratch the screen, providing us a variety of implements to do just that.

Cherry-Mobile-Omega-HD

It might not be as popular as Corning’s Gorilla Glass, but it’s still an option people should take notice of when considering the quality of the protective glass. If you’re wondering how good it is, Sony’s Xperia Z uses it as well. If it’s good enough for a flagship phone from an established brand, then it’s good enough for us.
1GHz Dual-core CPU, PowerVR SGX531 GPU, 1GB RAM, Jelly Bean = Giving the People What they Wanted!
As mentioned, the Omega HD has 1GB of RAM and the familiar tandem of a Mediatek 6577 dual-core processor paired with a PowerVR SGX531 GPU. This configuration is the same as the O+ 8.12 that we reviewed in the past and throughout our hands on time with the Omega HD, we found it to be more than adequate. Navigation through the UI was fast and zippy, and one of the photographers at the event noted that it felt noticeably faster than his Cherry Mobile Titan.
Somebody tested both Dead Trigger and Temple Run 2 on the phone, which are both great looking games that are a bit heavy on the system and they played just fine (they looked especially gorgeous on that HD IPS screen). There should only be a few high-end games that will remind you that you’re using a budget android phone. For the most part, you’ll be pleased with the solid performance from the chipset. It also doesn’t hurt that it’s launching with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, which makes the whole thing seem faster because of the software optimizations of Google’s Project Butter.
Storage: 4GB internal storage, expandable up to 32GB
Despite all other hardware upgrades, the Cherry Mobile Omega still has the familiar 4GB of built-in internal storage that’s common across many of the higher end locally branded phones. It’s nothing to gripe about, considering the price, and it expandable via microSD anyway. However we didn’t get the chance to see if the Cherry Mobile Omega HD supports app installations on the external card.
Connectivity: Wi-Fi, GPS, 3G, Bluetooth, etc
Being a full-fledged android phone, the Omega HD doesn’t skimp on any essential smartphone features. All the standard connectivity options are here, namely Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth, and GPS. It shouldn’t come as a surprise as it’s a relatively premium price point for a locally branded smartphone. You simply get what you pay for, and since you’re paying more for the Omega HD, thankfully, you’re also getting more in return.
Camera: 12-megapixel BSI camera, 2-megapixel front camera, 720p video recording
Aside from the astounding 5-inch HD IPS Dragon Glass display, another main attraction of the Cherry Mobile Omega HD is its sick 12MP BSI (Back-Illuminated-Sensor) main camera with autofocus and LED flash. BSI improves low-light performance of the camera, so you’re more than likely to get a decent shot in situations where lighting is less than optimal.
On the other hand, the front-facing shooter is rated at 2MP, and it’s said to be a BSI shooter too, although we didn’t have the chance to test it at the event. Video chats shouldn’t be too pixelated since the upgraded cam will give you a better experience than the typical VGA cameras that end up on lower-end android phones these days. Just make sure you have the bandwidth to support a bigger upload stream from that camera.
Battery Life: 2100mAh, Good enough
The boost in resolution, the use of IPS panel, and 1GB RAM is expected to consume more power, but the 2100mAh battery hits the sweet spot. The Galaxy S3 also has a similarly sized battery, but it has a quad-core CPU, meaning the Omega HD should last a little longer than Samsung’s flagship from last year. In comparison to the Cherry Mobile Titan that has a 2350mAh battery, there shouldn’t be a significant difference.

So should you buy the Cherry Mobile Omega HD?

If you like big screens, the Omega HD is a great pick, and despite the big screen, the body feels barely any bigger than the Cherry Mobile Blaze. The design and build quality feel top-notch, and we especially marvelled at the thinness of the bezel, which is something you would only expect from a flagship phone. There’s no doubt that it will be the premium local smartphone to beat phones once it’s out in April, but let’s not count out other local brands as they might release a few surprises of their own that can rival the Cherry Mobile Omega HD. But then again, we’re sure that the Omega HD will be give them a hard time competing.

CM-Omega-HD-Review-Specs-Price

It’s still too early to say if the Cherry Mobile Omega HD will achieve the kind of success that the Flare (read our review here) and Titan experienced when they first came out. After all, it does cost an extra grand than I’m accustomed to paying for a relatively high end locally branded phone. Also, it’s launching alongside the Cherry Mobile Flame 2.0, a quad core phone that sells for Php1k less. However in our opinion, the Omega HD feels like the better pick of the two. While you do lose out performance-wise, the Omega HD is better when it comes to battery life and screen quality, and you even get some premium features, such as scratchproof Dragon Trail Glass, and a pair of awesome front and back BSI shooters. It’s hard to go wrong with that kind of deal.

Cherry Mobile Skyfire 2.0

 By: Theodore Estadilla

Cherry Mobile Skyfire 2.0 Now Official, Specs, Features, Priced at Php7,999

On 10, May 2013
Cherry Mobile finally unveiled their new quad-core powered
android phone, the Cherry Mobile Skyfire 2.0. The rumors
proved to be true and it turned out to be somehow disappointing
for some as it has less competitive specs than the A919i Duo.
It’s been teased over the past few weeks and today Cherry Mobile
finally confirmed it. The leaked specs were also true and accurate.
Cherry Mobile Skyfire 2.0 will sport the same processor used
in the Cherry Mobile Flame 2.0 which is the 1.2GHz Qualcomm
Snapdragon Cortex A5 processor, 1GB of RAM, and Adreno 203 GPU.
As you can see, when compared to the MyPhone A919i Duo, it’s
nothing compared to that beast but the lower price tag of this
smartphone can’t be ignored.
Priced at only Php7,999, the Cherry Mobile Skyfire 2.0 brings a lot
of value for money including its large 5-inch qHD scratch resistant
display and a standard 4GB of internal memory which is expandable up to
32GB via a microSD card. Other features are the
8MP rear camera, 2MP front camera, and connectivity
options such as WiFi, 3G, Bluetooth, and GPS.

Cherry-Mobile-Skyfire-2-Specs-Price

Cherry Mobile Skyfire 2.0 Specs

  • Android Jelly Bean 4.1
  • 5.0-inches qHD (960×540) Scratch Resistant Capacitive Display, ~220 ppi
  • 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Quad-core Processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 4GB internal storage
  • Expandable via microSD up to 32GB
  • 8-megapixels autofocus main camera with flash
  • HD video recording
  • 2-megapixels front-facing camera
  • WiFi, WiFi Hotspot
  • 3G, HSDPA
  • GPS
  • microUSB v2.0
  • Bluetooth
  • 2,000mAh Battery

Related: Cherry Mobile Titan Review
Another interesting point is that the Cherry Mobile Skyfire 2.0 is priced equally with the Cherry Mobile Omega HD. The latter has a 5.0-inch HD (1280×720) Dragon Trail Glass Display, 12-megapixel BSI camera, and a slightly bigger 2100mAh battery. The only culprit on Omega HD is the lackluster MT6577 Dual-core 1GHz processor which tends to slow down a bit due to the high resolution of the device. But as always, each smartphone has their own pros and cons so you have to make a choice which one suits you better.
The official SRP of Cherry Mobile Skyfire 2.0 is Php7,999 and it’s expected to go on sale starting next week. Hopefully, CM won’t have a hard time rolling this thing out just like their other android devices which often faced supply shortage.
Now that Cherry Mobile’s quad-core Ace is here, people can now have their choice. What do you guys think? Cherry Mobile Skyfire 2.0 or the MyPhone A919i Duo? Shout it out in the comments section below!

Cherry Mobile Flame 2.0

 By:Theodore M. Estadilla

Cherry Mobile Flame 2.0 Hands-on, Price, Specs – 1.2GHz Quad-core CPU, 1GB RAM
On 19, Mar 2013
Cherry Mobile is really on a roll, and there’s no sign of stopping. Along with the Cherry Mobile Omega HD, they surprisingly announced the first ever local quad-core android phone in the Philippine market. Hit the break to know more about the Cherry Mobile Flame 2.0.
Cherry Mobile has hidden the Flame 2.0 under Cherry Mobile Omega HD’s launching event – and just like the Flare Up Event, they surprised us with an awesome android-powered device partnered with an incredibly low price tag. In fact, it’s so low that we thought they’re going nuts! No, not really. But that’s what the majority of us (Pinoys) felt. Now, we’re back to seeing another game-changing smartphone, but the battery dilemma was even more severe than what we’ve expected.

CM-Flame-2.0-Price-Specs-Features-Availability

The Flame 2.0 flaunts a 4.5-inch qHD IPS display with One Glass Solution technology which is already above average if we’ll take the current competition as comparison. Time flies fast and it seems like it was just yesterday when we were astonished by the ultra-affordable android phones with WVGA displays. But as time pass by, people grew excited on the pixel density war – wanting the highest ppi they could get their hands to. Only a few select pinoy android phones have qHD display and we’re fortunate enough to have another one on the list.
Cherry Mobile Flame 2.0 features a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 (not Pro) processor and 1GB of RAM – the most awaited specs configuration that we’ve all been waiting for. We first thought that local quad-core phones will make their way on our marketplace by Q3, but Cherry Mobile pulled another trick to bring it earlier than our calculation. It will be here by as early as next month, though we still have doubts on it’s nationwide availability after its official release then. After all, they haven’t deployed enough Cherry Mobile Fusion Bolt units yet that’s why it’s still not available on most CM kiosks and retailers. But we’re still hopeful that they would address that stocks issues here in Cherry Mobile Flame 2.0 and Omega HD.

Cherry-Mobile-Flame-2-0

Other highlights of the smartphone is its 5-megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash and VGA front camera which has a   Dual-camera mode which can also be seen on the newly announced Galaxy S4. So what’s with the Dual-camera mode? Well, it’s one nifty feature that lets your rear and front camera take photos simultaneously together and overlay it on top of the other. The usual connectivity options are here as well such as Wi-Fi, 3G, GPS, and Bluetooth.

Cherry Mobile Flame 2.0 Specs

  • Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean
  • Dual SIM, Dual Standby
  • 4.5-inch qHD IPS Display, 960×540 pixel resolution, 245ppi, OGS technology
  • 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm MSM8225Q Snapdragon S4 processor
  • Adreno 203 GPU
  • 1GB RAM
  • 4GB internal storage, expandable via microSD up to 32GB
  • 5-megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash
  • 720p HD video recording at 30fps
  • VGA front camera
  • Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi hotspot
  • 3G, HSDPA
  • FM Radio
  • Bluetooth with A2DP
  • Dimensions: 134.6 x 66 x 9.3mm
  • 1600mAh Li-Ion Battery
  • Price: Php 6,999
If you think that the battery life of the Cherry Mobile Flare is horrible, then you will be very upset to know that despite being a quad-core android phone, the battery capacity was left out. The Cherry Mobile Flame 2.0 only has a 1600mAh battery – which is pretty low in today’s standards. Gone were the days that all android phones couldn’t last a day of moderate usage. Manufacturers learned through their mistakes – but not of all them. Anyway, for its price of only Php6,999, that’s one of the best deal you can get.
Cherry Mobile Flame 2.0 will be available next month with a price tag of Php6,999. What do you think? Did the poor battery capacity broke the deal for you? Or is it a decent trade-off for the better CPU and RAM? Let us know in the comments!

Cherry Mobile Omega HD 2.0: 5-inch HD IPS Dragontrail Glass Display, Quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean

On 26, May 2013
A Cherry Mobile Omega HD 2.0 was unofficially outed in the Cherry Mobile Omega HD Facebook group a few minutes ago. So what’s in for the third generation Omega smartphone? Check out more details after the break.
Earlier this morning, we saw the supposed Cherry Mobile Flare 2.0, Blaze 2.0, and Thunder 2.0 thanks to Cherry Mobile Thailand. But now, another CM android phone was found and a person named Apol Marie Duque was able to buy a unit for Php8,999. At first the members didn’t believed her but she posted the box and receipt of her purchase to justify her claim of a Cherry Mobile Omega HD successor.
